What is Lean Six Sigma? Lean Six Sigma is the merger of two approaches to building a better organization intended to produce less waste, with less cost, and fewer defects. Six Sigma as a methodology grew out of work at Motorola in the 1980's when they - and many other great corporations - were deploying quality management systems based on the works of Deming and Juran. It was popularized in the 1990's by General Electric. Lean is the short name for a version of the Toyota Production System. Both Quality and Lean have their roots in the post WWII recovery.
