Teaching & Coaching Skills

Your organization has some natural-born teachers in it.  As part of our Lean Six Sigma deployment services, we'll help you identify who those individuals are.  We'll help them learn how to teach effectively so that you can continue to deliver your message to future generations of employees.  We'll also help your Black Belt and Master Black candidates learn to be effective coaches of teams and individuals; skills that extend beyond Six Sigma. 

Learning to Teach

For some reason, the ability to teach others is often seen as a simple thing...stand in front of the room, read some slides, take breaks on time...that's all that a person needs to do in order to be a good teacher, right?

Of course not!

Teaching ability is a gift.  It comes easily to some, and with great practice to others.  We can't always count on the naturally gifted teacher also being the subject matter expert.  Even less likely is this person - a gifted teacher and an expert in widget control - a member of the staff.

In addition to teaching the topics of management systems, Albany Analytical teaches teaching.  We have been teaching "forever" and we ourselves have had professional training in how to teach.

Learning to Coach (in a business environment)

Similar to teaching, coaching is a talent that not everyone embraces easily.  Some people can excel in a sport but not help others to excel.  Some people can coach a baseball team to the World Series, without ever having set records on the playing field themselves.  There are a few who can both play the game and coach the game...Just as in sports, business coaches have varying backgrounds and levels of expertise.

Coaching others ensures that operational knowledge stays with the organization, and doesn't disappear when an individual is promoted or retires.
