Blended Learning Instructional Design: The Process

We begin by helping you determine what you need.  Most of our clients are experts in something other than training.  If they were experts in training design, they wouldn't need us!  So, it is up to us to ask the right questions.

We start with a series of questions to determine:

red bullet Your audience.  Who are they?  What positions do they hold in the company?  What is their academic background?  What is their experience?

red bullet Your desired message.  What do you want your audience to get out of this learning experience?

red bullet Your constraints.  How much time can you afford to have your audience away from their jobs, taking training?  How much time can they dedicate to project work for the training?  What is your budget?  Is your audience geographically dispersed?  Can they travel?  What technology is available at your locations?

Next, we create the course architecture:

  • Outline of courses (if more than one course)
  • Purpose-Objectives-Goals for each course
  • Scope for each course
  • Outline of topics for each course

Then, taking into consideration learning styles, available technology, and your contraints, we determine:

  • The best mix of virtual and face-to-face training
  • The best mix of offline and online activities
  • The best mix of individual and group activities
  • The types of media to use for each lesson and activity
  • Methods of evaluation (i.e.: assignments, quizzes, peer assessments)

Lastly, we create the course content to be used online and face-to-face:

  • Lessons
  • Activities
  • Exam questions
  • Multi-media

It is important to do this in this order!  You should always start with the plan and build to it, rather than starting with the pieces and asking "what can I fit these pieces?"

We will guide you through each step, with a set of questions and options at each step.  We will tell you what's possible - what has worked best for others and what hasn't - and you can choose.

Together, we'll design the best blend of learning activities for your needs, within your budget and timeframe.

Not Sure About Moodle?

Are you still... Looking into my options

Not sure what Moodle is?
Not sure if it's what you need?
Not sure if you can or want to do it yourself?

Here's a great new course at Moodle.org, "Teaching & Learning". It is not only a Moodle course itself, but walks you through all the basics.  It's a great way to test the Moodle waters.
